Pepole in China’s mountainous regions are known eating unique things and the Hunanese are fond of spicy food ,while Zhangjiajie people prefer both. As Zhangjiajie is a tourist destination ,many standard Chinese dishes  and  the famous ones of ethnic groups are available like sauteed Preserved Pork and fish. Most  food is quite delicous which will definitely add color to your journey to Zhangjiajie.

Tujia cuisine are predominated with dishes like Tujia hotpot ,  fried bee eggs , and tuanniancai.Tujia specialties such as ge fen(Kudzu root powder), rice wine, cold noodles and Ciba ( a kind of pie made from Glutinous rice) are tasty very much. In addtion, “Tujia niancai”, which means the dish is only presented on the eve of the spring festival when Tujias would reflect on the past and pay tribute to their ancestors , including steamd meat , chicken soup with chestnut, preserved fish and so on. Dishes are usually placed at the center of the table so that everyone around the table can share them. A hot pot in particular adds to the atmosphere of harmony and happiness.

Other local specialties include wild rabbit, snake soup and dog meat hotpot. For those fond of spicy food, try the sauteed beef with wild pepper. Breakfast generally consists of buns,  noodles , dumplings , fried bread stick , soybean milk and Won ton.
